Periodontal Disease Second ONLY to the Common Cold
Dental disease (cavities and gum disease) are the most common diseases affecting people besides the common cold! with the addition of fluoride to our water and toothpaste, dental decay has almost become a problem of the past. But, it took the addition of fluoride to win that battle. Brushing and flossing alone did not work. The same is true with periodontal disease. Brushing and flossing may not be enough.
You are not alone! 75% of the population has some form of periodontal disease, but the majority do not realize it.
Tooth brushing cleans the smooth surfaces of the teeth and is an excellent way to prevent cavities. Gum disease starts in between the teeth. Regular toothbrushes don't or can't floss effectively.
Gingivitis is a bacterial infection of the gums that's reversible. However, periodontal disease is gum and bone disease. The infection has spread from the gum into the bone and permanent damage as occurred. There are several stages of this disease. If detected early it can be controlled.
Can't you just clean my teeth?
Periodontal disease is a serious infection. Evidence now links gum disease to a variety of health concerns including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other degenerative diseases that are life threatening. It's not just about your teeth anymore!
Periodontal disease can be a disfiguring disease. Your gums swell in size and become very red and angry looking. They may bleed very readily. Your teeth may shift and dark spaced between your teeth may start showing. The teeth then become loose and may need to be removed.
Early detection as with other diseases is the key to successful treatment. Your dental professional will routinely perform a gum disease screening exam. This is recommended at least one time a year by the American Dental Association.
The results of this exam will determine your periodontal status. If you have periodontal disease, your treatment will be personalized for you and your level of infection. A routine cleaning is not enough by itself to treat periodontal disease.
Soft Tissue Management Treatment Program
The treatment (root planing and scaling) consists of professional in-office care that detoxifies the tooth surfaces below the gum line and in between the teeth. Then medicine will be used to flush out the bacteria that caused this infection.
A Partnership: Your Dental Professional and You

Special Home Care Needs
Because of the damage created by the periodontal infection you have in daily care. Pockets have formed around your teeth and spaces have developed between them. although floss is an excellent preventive aid it does not reach these areas or depressions under the gum line. That's why the Rota-dent One Step® is so effective. The fine, flexible filaments sweep into these areas and remove the plaque and bacteria buildup before it has a chance to re-infect.
Home care is a very important part of your soft Tissue Management Treatment Program. The Rota-dent® is the only instrument that by itself has been proven to remove the bacteria from all the surfaces of the teeth including IN BETWEEN THE TEETH. The Rota-dent® has been evaluated in over 30 Independent University Studies.
Rota-dent® is manufactured by Pro-Dentec® and has a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
